Confirm the intended use first
Ask whether the product is designed for seating and obtain its stated load and use limits. A storage cabinet with a cushion placed on top is not automatically a storage bench. Inspect the assembled product rather than judging support from a photograph of its exterior.

Inspect corners, handle areas, and the front edge where shoes or bags may touch. Ask for care instructions for each material. A removable fabric cover may be easy to wash, while the frame beneath it may require a different cleaning method.
Choose materials that suit the actual room rather than relying on a claim that one category is universally durable or sustainable. Ask for evidence behind any certification or performance description.
Keep a repair record
